Patong Win the title!!
25th April, 2010 – Island Furniture League Cup Final
The much sought after prize of League Champions was today fought out between last years champions, the Kingfisher Island Cricket Club and first time finalists Patong Cricket Club.
KICC won the toss and elected to bat first sending their rivals into bowl expecting to make a second victory of the season against Patong.
The day started of badly for KICC by losing 4 early wickets and only posting 39 runs in the first 10 over spell. They fought back well however, reaching over 100 in the next 10 overs and losing only 1 more wicket. Unfortunately for KICC their collapse was final in the 25th over for a total of only 153. Some fine bowling performances by Joshi, and player of the season, Anil Rawat kept the KICC side restricted all game.
Patong started their batting well with Rickard Desmond and Dave Thomas opening. Richard smashed a full toss for six and one of the KICC bowlers being stopped after bowling 2 bean balls so all was going well for Patong until Dave edged a nice ball to the keeper for only 1 run. Ian Lenton came to the crease and stedied the ship for until Richard Desmond was also caught behind. That brought Richard Folds to the crease who went on to score a match winning 67 runs earning him batsman of the season. Captain Seemant Raju also hit the winning runs with a mighty 6 driven down the ground.
Congratulations to the Patong lads for a great season and worthy champions.
