Patong Cricket Club Vs Phuket Development Cricket Club
31 January, 2010 – In another show of strength today, the Patong Cricket Club gave indication that they intend to challenge for the title in this years Island Furniture Cricket League by setting the leagues highest batting score in history with a stunning 406 runs.
Coach, Nifty Catts and his team of U’19’s local Thai kids can be very proud of their efforts though as they are clearly improving with each hit out that they have and their experience being gained playing in this years senior league will be invaluable when competing against their piers in the U19’s Tournament.
Patong, one of the most social teams in the competition, showed true sporting spirit by switching their batting line up around with tail enders finding themselves in unfamiliar surroundings opening the bat. This tactic might have to be used again as gun bowler Anil Rawat smashed a solid 75 runs to start well, however the two next batsmen were dismissed quickly for only 12 giving the youngsters a sniff of a chance at taking out a victory.
However, hopes were reduced when paceman Joshi Naresh arrived and also notched up a quick 57 followed by Man of the Match John Whetton hitting 16 boundaries and 80 runs before being given out LBW to young gun Pup.
The innings was finished off well by Ian Lenton and Richard Folds both reaching their half centuries with 51 runs apiece before captain Raju Seemant declared the innings at 33.4 overs.
Bowling for the PDCC was excellent with Pup shining taking 4 wickets including the two high scorers John Whetton and Anil Rawat.
With an extremely high target, the PDCC openers started well by scoring freely off the first couple of overs including a very good four to Duang. Not long after though, the experience of spinner Martin Foster showed through with 2 quick wickets putting pressure on the batting team.
Took once again showed her skills with the bat playing a variety of defensive as well as some aggressive shots reaching the boundary. Other good performances were made by Bank, Mack, Pao Pup Aon Bill, First and Non with Aon, Pup and Bill all staying at the crease for long periods of time and scoring well.
In the man of the match stats, John Whettons 80 runs and some good wicket keeping was enough to take the 3 points, Anil Rawat received 2 points and 1 point went to Pup for his 4 wickets and excellent batting.
