Laguna Cricket Club Vs Liquid Lounge Lizards
Round 5 of the Island Furniture Cricket League saw two very competitive teams fight out an extremely high scoring and enjoyable match.
The toss was won by the Laguna boys and they chose to bat first. This proved a wise decision with the warm temperatures cooled off in the morning by some breeze which soon dropped after lunch.
They also managed to rack up a large run total of 302 runs with Alex Booth just missing his ton scoring 90 runs before being caught of some fine bowling by Sean Raine. Other high scorers were Fayzan Hamid with 40 not out, Damian Clowes 38 and Sameer Kahn with 36.
With such a large total in the bag, nobody at the ground thought it possible that the Liquid Loungers could make a game of it but the opening pair of Dave Langly and P. Ferrier managed to hit the 100 mark without fall of wicket. However, their jubilation was short lived when Dave Langley was bowled the next ball for his total of 39 runs.
P. Ferrier was looking solid at the crease and after 20 overs the scores were deadlocked at 148 for each team. Could this be a record run chase by the LLL team? Unfortunately not when a change of bowlers from pace to spin saw P. Ferrier also bowled for 83 runs. Dave Kellaway managed to put up a good effort (36 runs) as did the other batsmen but the total was just too high with the result being a win to the Laguna Boys by 37 runs.
This now places the new Laguna team towards the top of the table and challenging for a finals berth at the end of the season.
Man of the match points went to: Alex Booth 3pts, Peter Ferrier 2pts and Fayzan Hamid 1 pt.
