Laguna too good for the LLL boys
In the final game of the season, the rescheduled Finals Game between the Laguna side and the Liquid Lounge Lizards was held in great spirits.
Both teams fighting for 3rd place in the championship and the two evenly matched teams put on a good spectacle.
With a few men short due to work committments, the LLL team started batting with a consistent run rate with Sean and Peter both just falling short of their half centuries. Disaster struck though when major strike batsman Dave Kellaway was bowled for a golden duck, putting a lot of pressure on the lower batsmen. Captain Danny Hyans also made a solid 39 before being unluckily run out for 39. The boys made a solid 170 all out.
Laguna though, seemed to be in control with openers Mike 40 and Ravi 26 hitting runs at will. Stuart Reading knocked up a quick 41 before the tail enders managed to reach the desired score for a well earned victory and 3rd place in the league.
Well done boys and we all look forward to another great year next season.
Patong Win the title!!
25th April, 2010 – Island Furniture League Cup Final
The much sought after prize of League Champions was today fought out between last years champions, the Kingfisher Island Cricket Club and first time finalists Patong Cricket Club.
KICC won the toss and elected to bat first sending their rivals into bowl expecting to make a second victory of the season against Patong.
The day started of badly for KICC by losing 4 early wickets and only posting 39 runs in the first 10 over spell. They fought back well however, reaching over 100 in the next 10 overs and losing only 1 more wicket. Unfortunately for KICC their collapse was final in the 25th over for a total of only 153. Some fine bowling performances by Joshi, and player of the season, Anil Rawat kept the KICC side restricted all game.
Patong started their batting well with Rickard Desmond and Dave Thomas opening. Richard smashed a full toss for six and one of the KICC bowlers being stopped after bowling 2 bean balls so all was going well for Patong until Dave edged a nice ball to the keeper for only 1 run. Ian Lenton came to the crease and stedied the ship for until Richard Desmond was also caught behind. That brought Richard Folds to the crease who went on to score a match winning 67 runs earning him batsman of the season. Captain Seemant Raju also hit the winning runs with a mighty 6 driven down the ground.
Congratulations to the Patong lads for a great season and worthy champions.
Lounge Lizards into the Plate Final
4 March 2010 – Liquid Lounge Lizards V’s Phuket Development Cricket Club
In the final round of the season before the finals series, LLL had a chance to pip Patong at the post in reaching the Champions Cup Final, however, the task of scoring over 400 runs was too much to ask.
Also, after their success at the National Youth Games recently, the PDCC was pumped up for a big game. Bowling was good with one memorable ball clean bowling Coach Nifty Cats for a low score.
PDCC managed to take 9 wickets for 321 runs with a much improved fielding display and their usual impressive bowling.
The game was played with great spirit and sportsmanship with both sides seen to be enjoying the day out.
Next week will see the Village Cricket Club V’s the Phuket Developement Cricket Club in a playoff for the Bowl Final.
All the best to both teams.
Village succumb to Laguna pressure
28 March 2010 – Village Cricket Club V’s Laguna Cricket Club
Fighting for a berth in the Champions Cup Final, the Laguna Cricket Club this week took on The Village in a match which would decide whether the Laguna side could make history.
Despite a strong effort in both field and with the bat by both teams and that fact they won the match, the boys from Laguna walked away disappointed.
This result now settles their spot on the ladder and we await next weeks results between the PDCC and LLL to see who makes the final.
KICC wins final game and remains undefeated
21st March 2010 – Kingfisher Island Cricket Club V’s Patong Cricket Club

In another close match the KICC side has proven their long term results are not a fluke by holding off a valiant effort by the Patong boys to win their last game before the finals by 7 runs.
The Patong side was asked to bowl and started off with some strong pace bowling which restricted the run rate quite well, however the long batting line up for KICC was able to withstand the solid fielding efforts and post a score of 179 runs.
The Patong side again lost early wickets however a solid partnership between Anthony Van Blerk and Richard Folds kept their side in the game. Unfortunately for the boys their wickets fell not long after the 3rd drinks break leaving little time for the remaining batsman to set their eyes and knock out the runs.
