The Village Cricket Team v Patong CC 2009
26th April 2009
The Village is taken apart by local Thai lady cricketer.
The Village Cricket Team took on Patong CC in the latest round of the Island Furniture Senior Cricket League on Sunday. VCT won the toss and elected to bat first which turned out not to be the best of decisions.
Tight bowling at the start from Seemant Raju (1-10) and Richard Desmond (3-8) kept the runs down and removed the top order Village batsmen with too little runs on the board. Making her league debut for Patong, JIRAPORN RODKAEW (Took), a lady cricket teacher from Sapam High School, was brought into the attack and took a wicket with her very first ball, a catch cleanly taken at gully. She continued to bowl well and finished with superb figures of 4-10 from 3 overs in which she clean bowled one of the Village Team with a nicely flighted ball. Andy Beeley completed the bowling attack with 2 wickets and took three catches. The Village ended up being dismissed for just 35 runs from 10.2 overs.
Patong CC set about what seemed to be a very achievable 36 to win, but things did not go entirely to plan. Martin Foster (Captain) chose to reverse the batting order. Took opened the batting, but could not compliment her excellent bowling with the bat as she was out for a duck, first ball caught at slip. Patong made hard work of the required total and lost 5 wickets before reaching the target. Dean Noble was the only batsmen with any notable score, a respectable 17. The best of the Village bowlers was Heath Glasby with 3-15.
All in all a short game but a fantastic performance from Took with the ball, we hope she has many successful games ahead.

CONVINCING WIN FOR ISLAND CRICKET CLUB
Match 4 of the Island Furniture League saw the Patong Cricket Club (PCC) win the toss and elect to bat against the Island Cricket Club (ICC). Richard Brown and Richard Desmond opened the batting for the PCC while Umesh Yadav and Anand Chand opened the bowling. The PCC were in early trouble on an uneven pitch and soon found themselves 2 down for 6 runs with Brown (3) and Rishi Sadarangani (0) both being bowled by Chand. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Desmond (13), Mark Whetton (30) and Pat Cotter (17) making it to double figures for PCC. Wickets were shared amongst the ICC bowlers but mention should be made of Sameer Khan and Umesh Yadav with figures of 6-0-3-33 and 6-0-2-7 respectively.
Patong Cricket Club: All out for 140 in the 30th over.
After lunch the ICC side went about chasing down 141 for a win. The defending champions did this with relative ease and reached the required target in just the 20th over. All the top order batsmen did their job with Anand Chand (22), Fazian Khan (34), Faisal Mir (23), Sameer Kahn (19) and Manoj (18 not out) and all making it to double figures. For the PCC, none of the bowlers stood out but mention should be made of Richard Desmond who came away with figures of 4-0-1-19.
Island Cricket Club: 143 runs for 4 wickets off 20 overs.
The ICC won by 6 wickets.

Phuket Cricket Army v Liquid Lounge Lizards 2009
25th January 2009
The PCA won the toss and elected to bat. Firoz Khan and Ashish Kumar opened up the innings on another hot day at Cherng Talay High School with Nicholas Catts and Russell Loughland taking the new ball for the Lizards. The PCA soon found themselves 4 for 2 with Kumar and Paresh Borkar sent packing by Loughland. That brought a middle order revival from Arun Satheesh (18) and Vikram Singh (top scoring with a fine 36) however they found little support apart from a robust 20 from no.10 Raj Raymajhi and the PCA struggled to 119 all out off just 20 overs. The Lizards’ most consistent performer, Catts, once again shined with the ball taking 4 for 28 off 7 overs and he was well supported by Russell Loughland with 3 for 21 off 6.
So with just 120 to win the Lizards were in confident mood but unfortunately they were in deep trouble at 8 for 3 and then 43 for 6 with their top order all back in the tent thanks to some good spells from Satheesh (7 overs 3 for 33), Singh (8 overs 2 for 19) and Borkar (8 overs 2 for 21). Danny Hyams offered some middle order resistance with 20 runs and Alf Hodges at the end with 16 but it wasn’t enough and they were dismissed for 92 including 25 extras.
The PCA won by 27 runs.

Patong CC v The Village Cricket Team 2009
18th January 2009
PCC captain Martin Foster won the toss and elected to bat. After a couple of early wickets Richard Brown (20) and Pat Cotter (13) got the innings going but Kevin Quilty (4 overs 2 for 33) and Craig Patterson (6 overs 2 for 30) continued to bowl well removing four of the top five batters. The fall of the fourth wicket brought Mark Whetton, top scoring with 26 runs, to the crease to hit some lusty blows and at the fall of the 6th wicket PCC had reached 100. John Bishop then produced a fine spell of 4 for 37 off 7 overs to peg back the lower order but thanks to no.11 Simon Samaan’s rearguard 21 not out, well supported by Joshi Kumar (12), Patong reached 161 runs off 26 overs. Although only batting for 26 of their allotted 35 overs, PCC’s 161 runs certainly gave them something to bowl at.
VCT opened up their innings with Martin Platts and Quilty but danger man Platts was soon sent back to the tent when Seemant Raju trapped him leg before for 4. Quilty, however, dug in for his 20 runs but unfortunately he got little support from his team mates and the VCT were bowled out for 72 off 21 overs. It was an excellent bowling and fielding display from PCC including a direct hit by John Whetton from long off to run out Harvey and a couple of sharp catches from Foster. All the PCC bowlers produced good spells, Richard Desmond taking 4 for 20 off 5 overs and Brown a tidy 1 for 14 off 5. But it was Raju who produced the spell of the day with 3 for just 11 runs off 6 overs bowling an exceptional line and length.
A good day enjoyed by all, the game was played with great spirit and good sportsmanship both on and off the field.
Patong won by 89 runs

Liquid Lounge Lizards v Island Cricket Club 2009
11th January 2009
The 2009 Island Furniture Senior Cricket League got underway with the defending champions ICC taking on the LLL’s at Cherng Talay High School. The match was well attended and spectators were treated to a strong all round display from ICC, resplendent in a brand new blue strip, who emerged the winners by 27 runs.
ICC batted first and were all out for 142 runs following good bowling from Nicholas Catts, who took 4 wickets for 31 runs, and Mike Ayling who finished with figures of 3 for 22. Yatin Halankar top scored for the ICC team with 30 runs.
Chasing a reasonable total, the Lizards struggled gamely against a strong ICC bowling attack, with the reigning champions eventually running out comfortable winners. Mike Ayling led the way for the Lizards, scoring 27 of their 115 runs, but the ICC attack, led by man of the match Sameer Khan who took 4 for 20, proved too strong for the batting side.
It was just the start the Indian side wanted and Sameer Khan was understandably delighted, “We have a strong batting and bowling line up and, having won the league last year, we were confident we could win today”, he told the Gazette.
